FAQS

  • Answer: It depends on your income, filing status, age, and whether you had taxes withheld or qualify for credits/refunds. Even low earners may benefit from filing.
See: IRS “Do I need to file a tax return?” tool.
    (IRS)

  • Answer: Employers/payers must send W-2s by end of January. If it’s late, contact them first. If you still don’t receive it by end of February, you can call IRS for help and — if necessary — use Form 4852 (Substitute for W-2) to file without the actual W-2. (IRS)

  • Answer: Ask your employer to correct it. If they don’t by the end of February, you can contact the IRS and may need to use Form 4852 to file. (IRS)

  • Answer: Yes — e-filing is available, and you don’t send W-2s to IRS (just provide them to your e-file provider). Keep copies of your W-2/1099 and return for your records (IRS)

  • Answer: The standard deadline for individuals is usually around April 15 (or nearest business day). If needed, you (or your CPA) can request an automatic extension — but that only extends filing, not payment. (IRS)

  • Answer: You must still file by the deadline, even if you can’t pay. If you owe, the IRS offers payment options — it’s better to file on time and discuss payment with your CPA or the IRS. (IRS)

  • Answer: If you e-file and choose direct deposit, refunds are often processed within ≈ 21 days. For paper returns, it may take longer. Use the IRS Where's My Refund? tool (or the IRS2Go app) to check status.(IRS)

  • Answer: That’s considered a taxpayer error. The IRS recommends verifying account/routing numbers carefully before submitting — they won’t correct refund deposit mistakes caused by wrong information.(IRS)

  • Answer: You’d need to file an amended return using Form 1040-X to correct the original return.(IRS)

  • Answer: For e-filed original returns, processing is typically within 21 days. Paper returns (or returns needing review) take longer. (IRS)

  • Answer: Use Form 8822 (or 8822-B for businesses), or simply file your return using your new address. Alternatively, you can send a signed written statement to IRS. (IRS)

  • Answer: If you’re self-employed or don’t have enough tax withheld, you may need to make quarterly estimated tax payments. Check whether that applies to you each tax year. (IRS)

  • Answer: The IRS offers a tool called Interactive Tax Assistant (ITA), which guides you through questions to help determine eligibility, filing requirements, taxability, etc. (IRS)

  • Answer: TFiling status depends on your marital status as of December 31 of the tax year. If you were separated but still legally married, you may need to file jointly (or consider separate filing, depending on your situation). Your CPA can help determine the best option. (Note: this is a common CPA question — consult a professional for personal advice.)

  • Answer: Keep a folder (or digital file) that includes all income documents (W-2s, 1099s), receipts for deductible expenses, last year’s tax return, and relevant records (e.g. interest, mortgage, donations). This helps avoid missing items or misreporting.

Business tax return preparation, Tax refund processing

"This is our 2nd time using Clara for her tax services and we've been more than satisfied with her support. She’s incredibly personable, patient and willing to the explain the process, and she’s very responsive and professional. We truly feel advocated for and we hope to continue using her services in the future. This was a referral from another friend and we have no regrets. We have great confidence sharing her information with other loved ones looking for financial services."

"I was referred to Clara by a friend and I’m truly grateful I chose her. I needed two years of my business taxes amended, and she quickly figured out the mistakes from my previous tax preparer and got everything corrected with ease. Clara had a fast turnaround time, answered every question I asked, and made the whole process stress-free. I received my refund within two weeks after she submitted the amendments. She’s knowledgeable, efficient, and genuinely cares about her clients. Highly recommend Clara! She has a forever client!"

"I had an amazing experience working with Clara on my taxes. She truly cared about helping me and was incredibly knowledgeable about every step of the process. Clara took the time to walk me through everything, making sure I understood what was going on, and she kept me informed the entire way. Her communication was excellent clear, timely, and professional. It’s rare to find someone who is both great at what they do and genuinely kind and caring. I’m definitely going to work with her again and I highly recommend Clara to anyone looking for a reliable and personable tax professional. She’s the best!"
